Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
For Adventurers
What is Off Gridly?
Off Gridly is a peer to peer online platform that connects outdoor guides and gear owners with people looking to get outside and experience new things. We focus on connecting people through the platform and marketing our guides and platform through high quality storytelling.
How do I book an adventure?
Browse our listings, filter by location or activity, and send a booking request through the platform. You’ll be able to communicate with your guide directly through the platform messenger and get details, directions, and any questions answered.
Do I pay when I book?
You enter in your credit card information when requesting a booking, but aren't charged until you confirm everything with your guide and are happy with the details, and they then confirm the booking.
Do I pay a fee when I book?
Adventurers or clients don't pay any extra fee when they book. We take a 10% fee from guides to help run our platform, which we hope we provide enough value in return to justify.
Do I need any special gear or training?
Each listing includes required gear, skill level, and what to expect. Some adventures are beginner-friendly, others might require more prep. When in doubt, message the guide.
Is Off Gridly safe?
Outdoor activities always have an inherent risk associated with them. Hiring a guide that is experienced is always the best way to be safe. We do what we can to vet our guides, especially for higher risk activities, and encourage reviews from real users. Each guide sets their own safety rules, and we strongly recommend following all posted guidelines.
Can I bring my dog/kid/friend?
Our listings include guest policies. Some are pet-friendly or kid-friendly, others are not. Always check the listing or message the guide before hand to be sure.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Policies vary by guide and experience. Most experiences and bookings can be cancelled within 24 hours for a full refund, but larger more expensive bookings, that require lots of planning and preparation on the guide's part understandably have different cancellation terms. Contact your experience's guide for more details.
What if something goes wrong during my trip?
Contact the guide first. If it’s an emergency, call local authorities. For disputes, reach out to Off Gridly support — we will do everything we can to help. Off Gridly is a connection platform that connects guides with adventurers, and takes no liability in cases of negligence or accidents. Our guides are independent operators and many carry liability or rescue insurance in case of emergency.

For Guides
Who can become a host?
Anyone with sufficient skills or certifications in a particular area can be a guide. We offer a wide variety of activities on Off Gridly, from astronomy to mountaineering, so the requirements vary. Anyone with outdoor gear can setup an account and rent their gear for extra cash.
What kinds of adventures can I list?
We have a variety of activities and rentals including Land access (camping, cabins, campsites), guided experiences (astronomy, survival skills, snorkeling), or gear rentals (kayaks, ATVs, solar kits). If it gets people outside, it fits.
How do I list my land or experience?
Sign up as a guide, create a listing with photos and descriptions, set your availability and pricing, connect your payment account, and go live. If you have any questions, reach out to us, and we will guide you through it.
Is there insurance or liability protection?
Off Gridly doesn't mandate liability insurance but recommends clear disclaimers and safety waivers. Check local laws, and consider extra liability insurance if needed.
How do I get paid?
You set your own rates. We take a 10% cut. Payouts are securely processed via Stripe and deposited directly to your bank account after a completed booking.
Can I approve or deny bookings?
Yes. Each booking has to be approved, and you can speak in detail with any of your booking clients beforehand through our in web messenger.
What’s Off Gridly’s cut?
We try not to be greedy and plan on strongly resisting corporate pressures to take huge fees. We take a 10% commission on each booking to keep the lights on and pay our people. Our fee structure is simple and can be seen before you approve any booking.

General
Where does Off Gridly operate?
We’re currently focused on the United States. We operate remotely (to keep prices down) with our employees spread across California, Arizona and Colorado.
How are you different than platforms like Airbnb Experiences, Get your guide and 57 Hours?
We have a heavy focus on outdoor activities, especially activities you can't find elsewhere. We are a better platform for outdoor related activities and focus a lot more on building relationships with individual guides through storytelling (docs, short videos, articles) and an online platform that focuses on building guide-client trust before the actual booking takes place.
How can I contact support?
Message us through the site or email the manager directly at John@offgridly.com. We’re real people here in the USA, and we’ll get back to you fast.
Do you offer group bookings or corporate retreats?
Yes! Contact us for custom setups. We will reach out to some of our most experienced guides and have them custom design and experience for you.
What is Project Wilding™?
Giving back doesn't cost us much—so we ran out of excuses not to. Project Wilding™ takes kids who rarely get the chance outdoors and gives them a day of adventure. Some of our best guides volunteer their time, Off Gridly Inc. covers the costs, and partner organizations provide the chaperones.
