Smith Rock Sending Camp: 2 Day Rock Climbing Excursion

Smith Rock Sending Camp is a two-day intermediate-level program designed to help climbers refine their lead climbing skills and develop effective redpoint strategies in a supportive, community-driven environment. Structured as an immersive camp, this program fosters camaraderie and shared learning, allowing participants to connect with fellow climbers, encourage one another, and grow together. Whether you are an experienced lead climber looking to push into harder grades or a newer climber eager to gain confidence lead climbing outdoors, the Smith Rock Sending Camp will provide the guidance and support needed to take your lead climbing to the next level! We recommend that participants have prior experience lead climbing in the gym or top-roping outside. Throughout the two days, we’ll help you select a project that inspires you, set intentional and achievable goals, and practice redpointing tactics to send your route in style. With the support of an AMGA-certified Rock Guide and a like-minded community, you’ll walk away with new skills, lasting connections, and a rock-solid mindset for lead climbing. What to Bring?

Clothing: For a day of rock climbing, you needn’t worry about your outerwear too much, but we do recommend you bring a jacket. However, if it’s not summer, here are some of our favorite layers from NW Alpine! - Sun Shirt: Synthetic, quick-drying (ex: NW Alpine Men's Sun Hoody, NW Alpine Women’s Sun Hoody) - Lightweight Fleece Top (ex. NW Alpine Black Spider Full-Zip Jacket) - Softshell Jacket (ex: NW Alpine Windshell) - Hiking​/​Softshell Pants (ex: NW Alpine Thielsen Pant) - Insulated Jacket For staying warm while belaying and learning, not needed for summer climbing (ex. NW Alpine Bastion Belay Jacket) - Leather Gloves: For belaying and rappelling, hardware store work gloves are great - Sun Hat: Baseball caps or packable sun hat - Climbing Shoes Personal Gear: - Day Pack: A small to medium sized backpack to carry group and personal gear - Lunch​/​Snacks: Bring about 1000 calories with you for the day - Water Bottles: Two, 1-liter bottles or a 2-liter soft reservoir (ex: Nalgene, HydraPak Seeker 2L) - Sunglasses - Sun Block (SPF 30 or higher)
